Lam Wing-yin

Lam Wing Yin is one of Hong Kong's most dynamic young elected leaders. An elected representative at two tiers of Hong Kong's government, he is both a District Board member and a Regional Councillor. In his work for the community, Mr. Chan has been a tireless advocate for the rights of Hong Kong's citizens. He is a Democratic Party candidate for the Legislative Council in the New Territories West district.

Education and Background:

Lam Wing Yin was born in Hong Kong in 1959. Following graduation from high school in Hong Kong, Mr. Lam embarked on an Accounting career until 1994, when he turned his attention full-time to community services.

Political Career:

In 1993, Lam Wing Yin was elected to the Regional Council, the principal regional decision-making body in Hong Kong, a post he currently holds. Mr. Lam is also a member of the District Board system and has been working full-time as a member of the Sai Kung District Board since his election in 1994. Mr. Lam is a core member of the Democratic Party and is a leader in both the party's Policy Action Committee and Housing Affairs Committee.

Community Service:

Mr. Lam's participation in community service dates back to 1987 in Kwun Tong, when he was a keen participant in Sau Mau Ping's redevelopment project. In 1990, he moved to live in Tseung Kwan O, becoming a member of the Tseung Kwan O South Committee in 1994. He is also active in a number of local committees such as the Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee and the Organizing Committee of Sai Kung Summer Youth Program, a program he is still involved with. Lam Wing Yin also chairs the MAC of Yan Chung Ming Yuen of Yan Ming Court.

Because of his devotion to his work with the community, Mr. Lam resigned from his accounting work in 1994, to devote himself to district affairs and citizen assistance on a full-time basis.

Personal:

Mr. Lam is married and has one child. When he is not busy with district work, he tries to find time to go hiking in the New Territories with his family, listen to music and play the occasional game of ping-pong.
