Steve Chan Kwok-leung

Education and Background:

Steve Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1966. He graduated from Lingnan College in 1988 with a High Diploma of Social Science in Asian Pacific Studies. He then completed a Bachelors degree in Business Administration at the Ottawa University in the States in 1991. He later earned a Master's degree in Public Policy at the University of Melbourne in Australia in 1992.

Political Career:

Mr. Chan is a founding member of the Democratic Party and its predecessor, the United Democrats of Hong Kong, Hong Kong's first political party. He is a committed member and is active in the Central Committee and other party activities. He has been an elected Urban Councillor from 1995 through the present.

Community Service:

Chan Kwok Leung has demonstrated devotion to student movements and the democratic movement since his teens, and is particularly concerned about urban renewal, public health issues, environmental hygiene policy and the livelihood of the people of Hong Kong. Mr. Chan is active in community affairs and social service to the society. He holds a number of community posts, including co-op member of the Traffic and Transport Committee of Central and Western District Board, Board of Directors of the United Social Service Centre and secretary of the Standing Committee at the University of Democracy.

Personal:

Steve Chan is an eligible bachelor -- who considers that the demands and late hours of political work are certainly undermining his proficiency in his favourite hobbies of swimming and squash.
